City of Boulder seeks climate-resilient landscape projects and ideas

Community members can enter completed projects, submit new ideas, and compete for funding and prizes through July 10.

BOULDER, Colo. – The City of Boulder is inviting community members to showcase landscapes that are helping create a more climate-resilient community through the Climate Resilient Landscape Showcase. Applications are open through July 10.

As Boulder faces increasing challenges from wildfire risk, drought, extreme heat and changing weather patterns, climate-resilient landscapes can help protect neighborhoods while supporting a healthier and more connected community.

From pollinator gardens and community farms to water-wise and wildfire-resilient yards, the showcase celebrates projects that reduce heat, conserve water, support biodiversity and strengthen community resilience.

“We know there are incredible projects taking root across Boulder every day,” said Brett Kencarin, Climate Initiatives Senior Policy Advisor with the City of Boulder. “Whether you’ve transformed your own yard, helped create a shared community space, or have an idea for a future project, we want to help tell those stories and inspire others.”

The showcase welcomes both completed projects and new ideas. Community groups, organizations, and individuals with concepts for climate-ready landscape projects may be eligible for up to $25,000 in funding to help bring their ideas to life.

Participants who submit photos of a Boulder landscape project may also be eligible to receive a $50 gift card while supplies last. Gift card options include Harlequin’s Gardens, High Plains Environmental Center, Masa Seed Foundation, and Growing Gardens.

Community members who choose to enter the showcase competition will have additional opportunities to:

Potentially receive a $500 gift card
Participate in public tours
Receive professional photography of their project
Be featured in a showcase catalog
Be recognized at an awards celebration

The Climate Resilient Landscape Showcase highlights how thoughtful landscape design can help communities prepare for climate impacts such as wildfire, drought, and extreme heat while creating healthier, more beautiful, and more connected places to live.

Applications are open through July 10. Community members can learn more and submit a project or idea on our website.
