If we had our way, every suburban developer would have to tour Longmont’s Prospect before designing new neighborhoods. Its hip use of color and design and live/work/play philosophy have led to a eclectic mix of shops and businesses.

1. Sugar’s
Organic chocolates from Boulder’s Seth Ellis and bizarre treats (infused with teas and herbs) from Wen Chocolates make Sugar’s a worthwhile year-round stop. Oh, yeah, try Grandma’s Caramel Cake, too. 645 Tenacity Drive Unit C. 303.459.7942

2. Tusk Safari Lounge Bar
Go because it’s the only nightlife around. Stay because of the cool African décor including specialty drinks served in unique wooden calabash cups used by African Bushmen. 2020 Ionosphere Court Unit A. 303.395.3800

3. Tenacity Wine Shop
Nancy Cook has the dream “retirement” job running her boutique wine shop that pulls together 30 years of collecting experience. The majority of her hand-picked selections are under $15 and drink like they cost twice that much. 700 Tenacity Drive #102. 720.652.9463

4. Biba The Boutique
Anchoring Prospect’s fashion row is this boutique that features collections from L.A. and Vegas as well as endless cool jewelry options at affordable price points. 2007 100 Year Party Court #2. 303.682.0601

5. Capers & Co.
While known for its creative gifts, cheeses and other homey goodies, owner Mary Carol Herbert is especially fond of her Spanish heritage and the goodies from her homeland such as a specialty chorizo and jamon Serrano, a dry-cured ham. 2011 100 Year Party Court #3. 303.772.5997

6. The Rib House
The biggest dilemma we have when ordering lunch from this Kansas City barbecue joint is whether we want to fill up on the sides (fried mac and cheese, fried okra, fried everything) or ribs. We pick both. 1920 S. Coffman St. 3033.485.6988

Also: Get fit at Solar Yoga (303.485.0490) and Pilates For Life (303.532.3362), start your day at Vic’s Espresso (303.485.6791), get more cool threads at Grey Bee (303.774.8668), go raw at Sushi Jianken opens in early 2008 (303.774.0888), and walk to it all from your $425,000 2,200-square-foot condo (730 Tenacity Drive Unit A).
