Editor’s Note: Tim Case is cruising into the Midwest portion of the Race Across America. This is a solo bike race that will have him cross the United States in about 10 days. He left Oceanside, Calif., Sunday morning and had completed 1311 miles by 9:15 a.m. Friday, passing through Elkhart, Okla., on his way to to Kansas. His team updated us briefly and hopes to check in later today. Tim is riding for Team Strong Heart to raise money and awareness for Camp Odayin, which is dedicated to serving children with severe heart problems.

Michelle checked in briefly with us today; we hope to catch her in a few hours. There had been some sort of communications snafu, which left her half of the support team following Tim for more than a day solid without sleep. She sounded a bit delirious when I spoke with her a few miles outside of Elkhart, check point No. 22.

She says Tim is still pedaling strong. She talked more about the saddle soreness he developed—there were actually open lesions. It’s a gross image, that was undoubtedly even more painful to ride through. Going MacGyver with a gel seat addition saved the ride, and the team seemed to be taking pride in that.

We’ll track down more later in the day.
