This Weekend’s Pick: Folsom Buried in Sand

Pro beach volleyball at Folsom Field?

Sounds like an event that took a wrong turn and wound up 2,000 miles from the beach. But the stadium normally filled with boisterous college football fans on Saturdays in the fall will be buried in tons of sand for a Fourth of July special.

The AVP tour swings through Boulder this weekend with the Boulder Open, marking the first time in tour history that pro volleyball will be played on a football field.

In past years when the AVP made stops in Boulder, the Boulder Reservoir was picked as the site. The large seating capacity of Folsom was too good to pass up.

And while the stadium isn’t exactly Venice Beach, the top pros in the world will be here nonetheless.
