A recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling, reversing limits on corporations, nonprofit advocacy groups, and labor organizations ability to spend money in elections, may impact provisions of the Colorado Constitution, according to a Denver lawfirm.

Hale Friesen has announced it will represent the Colorado Republican Party in a suit to overturn Colorado’s voter-approved campaign finance limits. Colorado’s voters in 2002 opted to ban direct corporate spending in state elections.

After the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling to reverse previous limits on corporate, union and organization spending in races, those in support of campaign finance reform expected that Colorado’s limits would be challenged. State officials now report they are examining state laws to see if they need to be adjusted to conform to the court’s ruling.
