Boulder Gets Fashionable

Fall is a very fashionable time of year. Especially in New York, when the city becomes a runway for the best designers in the country during New York Fashion Week. Although Boulder was once dubbed one of the worst dressed cities by GQ Magazine—it’s lies, all lies!—the city is about to join the fall fashion fun.

Boulder will host Fashion’s Night Out for the second year. On Sept. 6, instead of Spandex bike shorts and hiking boots on Pearl Street, you’ll find the hippest and most glamorous wares from
local boutiques.

Fashion’s Night Out was created in 2009 in New York to celebrate fashion and boost local economies. Three years later, more than 100 cities nationwide will honor the world
of fashion.

In downtown Boulder, the main catwalk starts in front of the County Courthouse at 6 pm on Pearl. Right after, walk over to the 20 local boutiques and shops participating in FNO with live music, giveaways, food, DJs, trunk shows and more.

Those involved in the event say Boulder’s FNO will look much different than fashion events elsewhere.

“Fashion is in the eye of the beholder,” says Kathy King, owner of Barbara & Company. “We have a very casual lifestyle. It’s never going to be the high fashion that all the other cities are going to be and that’s OK.”

Barbara & Company will have their own celebration with informal modeling, refreshments, a live band and giveaways every hour.
