Thornton City Council

Adam Matkowsky

His first time running for office, the New York transplant decided to run because he enjoys the “quality of life” and wants to “give back to the community.” Matkowsky, a retired police officer, wants to be the voice of the police and is running to “clean up the streets.” He also wants to be the voice of small business, attracting mom and pop stores to Thornton.

Janifer “Jan” Kulmann

No interview

YS was unable to interview both candidates in this ward, and can’t adequately make an endorsement.

Thornton Ballot Issues

2B

This ballot question wants to extend the .25 percent sales and use tax to Dec. 31, 2038. The tax is currently set to end Dec. 31, 2018. Revenue from the tax will be used for open space, parks and recreation, senior facilities, sports fields and historic buildings as advised by the city council.

 2C

This ballot issue would extend the term limit for the office of mayor and city councilmembers to promote long-range planning and effective government and provide consistency with the terms of other county elected officials.

YS votes Yes for: 2B, 2C
