POSH SPLAT

Painting classes aren’t the typical Father’s Day gift, but how many ties does one man need? No more ties, they chant on their way to Home Depot.
Men, before you deny the gift of painting classes, consider that some of the best painters in human history have been men. Heard of Michelangelo? Or possibly Leonardo da Vinci? Raphael? Salvador Dali? Bob Ross? All famous painters. Unleash your creative potential at PoshSplat, a painting and wine studio located in Boulder.

PoshSplat is recenlty under the new ownership of Chelsey Langlinais, a previous employee.

“It’s not necessarily about how well you paint, it’s about having fun,” she said.

The classes go as follows: You show up, maybe mingle with the other patrons while you enjoy a glass of wine in preparation for the night’s class. Then you sit down, and Chelsey (or one of the other teachers) sits in front of the class and instructs you how to paint your masterpiece.

You aren’t thrown to the wolves. They will show you how to paint step-by-step; unless you consider yourself more competent. Then you may go along at your own pace or paint something totally different.

“I would say the hardest thing about teaching a class is getting people to believe in their painting ability,” Chelsey said. “I try to get them to believe in my teaching ability rather than their skill so they can just dive right right in and have a good time. The wine helps with that as well.”
You are welcome to have more wine and beer as the night progresses. If it doesn’t help your painting skills, it’s alright to call it abstract. That’s what much of the 19th century was devoted to anyway.

Their classes come in all shapes and sizes. From painting the Flatirons to a sunset scene to an Aspen tree grove to Where the Buffalo roam.

“I love meeting new people, and seeing everyone’s style,” Chelsey said about being the new owner of her own business. “Everyone has a style even if they don’t know it. Seeing people going through the motions even if they haven’t painted in a long time is really fun for me. If you follow along you can just have a good time and I will teach you what you need to know.”
