The Denver International Beer Competition


The Denver International Beer Competition, held April 18 and 19 at the Omni Interlocken Hotel, saw Boulder County and Front Range breweries take home bushels of medals including an overall 1st place best of show by Lost Highway Brewing Co. in Denver for its O.G. Colfax Porter.T

The sixth annual competition received more than 300 domestic and international entries from 22 states and six countries. Gold medal winners will be featured at the Pairsine “Taste of Elegance” food and beer pairing in July at the Omni where area chefs will prepare dishes to complement each gold medal-winning beer.

In addition to Lost Highway, Epic Brewing – originally from Salt Lake City, which recently opened a brewery in the River North district of Denver – also took home a gold medal with its Epic Imperial Stout.

Bootstrap Brewing (Niwot): Stick’s Pale Ale, silver; Flagstaff Amber, silver; Insane Rush IPA, silver; Worthog Stout, bronze

Crow Hop Brewing (Loveland): Big Water Nut Brown Ale, silver; Sleeping Owl oatmeal stout, silver; Widow Screen Wheat, silver; Afternooner strong bitter, bronze; Progression pale ale, bronze

FATE Brewing (Boulder): Uror Gose, gold; Moirai IPA, silver; and Parcae Belgian Pale Ale, bronze

Finkel & Garf Brewing (Boulder): Lager, silver; IPA, silver; Oatmeal Milk Stout, silver

Front Range Brewing (Lafayette): Baltic Porter, gold; Black Mountain Stout, bronze

High Hops Brewery (Windsor): The Dark One sweet stout, gold; Windsor’s Wee Heavy Strong Scotch Ale, silver; The Golden One, silver; Dr. Pufs Double IPA, bronze

Liquid Mechanics (Lafayette): Kolsch, gold; Imperial Porter, gold; Colorado Red American Amber, silver; French Saison, silver

New Planet Beer (Gunbarrel): gold and bronze

The Post Brewing Co. (Lafayette): Townie Ale English IPA, bronze; Meathooks Session Ale, bronze

Verboten Brewing (Loveland): Brew #2 ESB, silver; Two Files IPA, silver; Pure Imagination Oatmeal Stout, silver; Many Pinatas Bourbon Barrel Quad, silver
