San Fran sleaze-rockers Babylon AD regrouped a couple of years ago and put out an EP, after a long hiatus. They’re coming to the Buffalo Rose in July, so we chatted with Derek Davis about the band’s plans.S

Yellow Scene: The band has been back together for over a year now – how has it been?

Derek Davis: Actually, we’ve been playing for about two years now. We put out the EP in February or March of last year, and we played a lot of dates. We played the Nottingham FireFest in England, Chicago’s Rock ‘n’ Skull Fest, and the Monsters of Rock thing a few months back. We just invited to do Monsters of Rock this spring on the west coast. We’re looking forward to the Denver gig, in Golden. This year, we put out the live CD to celebrate 25 years of being a band. We’re doing some shows with Y&T in a couple of months. We’re just happy to be out playing again.

YS: Any plans for a studio album?

DD: Well, we’ve kicked around some ideas. We have two or three ideas in the can. We’re just trying to figure out the direction, how long it’s going to take, and if we want to hire a mainstream producer. We’re trying to figure all that out, but we do have some ideas. We’ve been demoing tapes and stuff like that.

YS: When were you last in Colorado?

DD: I guess it was about a year ago. Wolfpack Productions brought us down there. I can’t remember the place. It wasn’t the Buffalo Rose – it was a totally different club. I love playing Colorado. We used to play Colorado all the time.

YS: What can we expect from the set?

DD: We’re just gonna kick ass and deliver some good rock ‘n’ roll. Play the hit songs, and get everybody going and fired up on Babylon AD.

YS: After this show, what’s next?

DD: Like I said, we’ve got some gigs coming up with Y&T in November. We’re playing another date in September in our own town. Then we’ll start working on more gigs for the following year. We just want to keep playing and having a good time. It’s all about meeting fans, having a good time, playing music and playing the sh*t we love. We’re all married guys with kids and things like that, so we really can’t go full-blown on the road like we used to do because we’ve all got responsibilities, but it’s great to have a fun weekend getaway once or twice a month.

Babylon AD plays with Dellacoma and Grind Cat Grind at 8 p.m. on Friday, July 10 at Buffalo Rose; 1119 Washington Ave., Golden; 303-278-6800; $15-$20.
