Celebrate Boulder County’s culinary community through feasts, experiences and unique menus

The 18th Annual First Bite event is back from October 20th – 29th, and it’s more delicious than ever! This renowned culinary celebration produced by Savor Productions promises to be an exciting ten days of gastronomic experiences that will tantalize taste buds and showcase Boulder County’s thriving food scene. With a strong focus on diversifying menu offerings and engaging events, along with several new participating locations, this year’s event is set to be a culinary journey like none other.

Since encouraging participating restaurants to break away from traditional restaurant week menus, First Bite has evolved to welcome a wider variety of cuisines, service models, and price points. The range of restaurants this year includes Michelin-recognized destinations and fast-casual eateries, everything from finger-lickin’ BBQ in Lyons to Spanish tapas on The Hill.

“It’s exciting to see the enthusiasm from our restaurants come through in their menus. There are grazing boards, pairings, multi-course dinners, and picnic options… just an incredible variety of ways to dine and places to visit” shares Jessica Benjamin, Owner and Executive Producer of Savor Productions.

With Boulder recently awarded its first season of Michelin Stars, it’s clear that Boulder County’s food scene is no longer a local secret. Its innovative and creative culinary offerings are making waves internationally, and First Bite is the perfect opportunity for locals to savor the flavors that are making headlines.

Marcy Miller, Owner of Organic Sandwich Company shares, “As a small, locally-owned business, we are very thankful for the support of our community, so any chance we get to be a part of a local event where we offer up something fun to our loyal customers, we are all about it!”

The events associated with this year’s First Bite offer opportunities to experience the participating restaurants in new ways, and perhaps before the crowds. Benjamin shares, “We are thrilled about the variety of events we have for diners to enjoy. It’s been a big focus of ours to build community through food, and hosting intimate and unique events diversifies the ways for diners to come together.”

Chef Asher of River & Woods speaks about his participation in the Culinary Field “Come to Market with Chef,” stating, “My greatest joy comes from connections with local farmers, tasting new varieties of vegetables & fruits, available sometimes for only a brief moment. Seeds are planted months before with faith and intention, sown with fierce determination, harvested by hand and love, the labor and toil of which is only truly comprehended by the farmer and the soil they nurture. As a cook, I must approach this equation with equal parts reverence and curiosity; it is our job in the kitchen to prepare these delightful ingredients with exceptional technique and serve them with grace to our guests nightly. First Bite is the perfect opportunity to showcase these relationships across kitchens and dining rooms all over town.”

Preview food tours, a lamb dinner, a culinary field trip, and even a film screening; the events around First Bite showcase the variety of small businesses in Boulder that intersect through food.

Expanding on the food tours First Bite has hosted the last two years, this year offered multi-modal: “Walk, Bike or Bus” your tastebuds across Boulder County to preview First Bite menus before the week kicks off. All three tours will donate a portion of their ticket sales to a local non-profit and will host a small group of foodies on a multi-restaurant dining experience with well-known local tour operators.

During First Bite’s ten-day celebration, there are more than a few more events to partake in:

  • Gemini has partnered with The American Lamb Board to host the Twin Flame Lamb Dinner on Wednesday, October 25th. This four-course lamb-focused evening is sure to dazzle your tastebuds. Advanced reservations are required.

  • Come to Market with Chef Daniel Asher on Saturday, October 21st for a culinary field trip to the Boulder Farmers Market. Reserve your spot on this intimate look into how Chef shops the market and prepares a true farm-to-table meal.

  • The Sink’s 100th Anniversary Film will be screening at the Dairy Center on Monday, October 23. Join Sink Rats of all ages, the producers and owners of The Sink for a talkback and of course, some of The Sink’s classic dishes after the show.

As chefs sharpen their knives and gourmands make their plans, the energy around the dining scene is palpable. “While it’s “prime time” for CU fans right now, it’s also a prime time to be a foodie in Boulder.” shares Benjamin, “First Bite is the preeminent way for locals to come together to celebrate our incredible restaurants and community – and we have so much to be proud of!”
