Douglas County, CO – March 17, 2025
The Justice for Jalin team—a powerful collective led by the Epitome of Black Excellence & Partnership, The Crowley Foundation, and The Denver Justice Project—has formally demanded a meeting with Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly regarding the shooting death of Jalin Seabron. This meeting is requested for Thursday, March 27th at 1:00 PM at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Weekly and his office have been given a firm deadline of Tuesday, March 18th to confirm their participation. Regardless of the Sheriff’s response, the Justice for Jalin team will hold a press conference at 2:00 PM on March 27th outside the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office to address the community and demand accountability.
We gather not out of convenience—but out of necessity. Because when the system refuses to deliver justice, we make it clear: We will not be silent. We will not be erased.
We stand in solidarity with the family of Jalin Seabron, a young Black man whose life was stolen far too soon. Since his death, his family has spoken out with courage—demanding truth and the dignity of accountability. Yet, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has responded with deafening silence. This refusal to engage has only strengthened the resolve of the Seabron family and the community.
The harm caused by Sheriff Darren Weekly’s statements cannot go unchallenged. Sheriff Weekly’s claim that his deputy “acted courageously to protect the public” is both troubling and deeply harmful. There is no courage in firing nine shots into the back of an unarmed young Black man within seconds of arrival. This statement not only deflects from the deputy’s failure to follow Policy & Procedure B-106—which requires officers to identify themselves and issue a clear verbal warning before using deadly force—but also attempts to valorize the unnecessary and fatal use of force. Such comments diminish the value of Jalin’s life and further traumatize his grieving family and the wider community.
The actions of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will not erase Jalin’s name, nor will it weaken our demand for justice.
At the press conference, the Justice for Jalin team will outline five non-negotiable demands that the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office must fulfill:
Retract the Mischaracterization of Jalin Seabron – The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office must retract the false narratives used to demonize Jalin and issue a public correction using the same platforms and energy they used to spread misinformation.
Fire the Officer Who Killed Jalin – The officer must be immediately terminated for violating Policy & Procedure B-106, which requires officers to identify themselves and issue a clear verbal warning before using deadly force. Body camera footage confirms no such warning was given.
Release the Name of the Officer – The public has a right to know the identity of the officer who killed Jalin. Transparency demands that his name be released without delay.
Full Transparency into the Investigation – The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office must provide a detailed timeline of the investigation, including the release of all relevant evidence and findings.
Public Apology to the Seabron Family – The Sheriff’s Office must issue a formal, public apology to Jalin’s family for their failure to acknowledge their demands and for the harm caused by their indifference.
“Jalin was more than a name. He was a life—a son, a brother, a father-to-be—his story should not end with a police report,” said MiDian Shofner, CEO of Epitome of Black Excellence & Partnership. “We refuse to allow his humanity to be diminished or his family’s pain to be ignored. We are here to demand truth, accountability, and nothing less than justice.”
Leadership of The Crowley Foundation, add: “The loss of our young Black men is a devastating blow to both their families and the entire community. Jalin’s family, and all Black children in Colorado, deserve our commitment to creating a world where their lives are cherished and safeguarded.”
Members of The Denver Justice Project state: “Jalin’s life mattered. We are disgusted by the police murder of Jalin Seabron and the decision by DCSO to assassinate his character in a desperate attempt to justify the unjustifiable. We demand immediate accountability for the deputy who, seconds after arriving on the scene, shot Jalin 9 times in the back. Jalin’s murder is yet another example of a legal system plagued by racism and double standards. Enough is enough! ”
Thursday’s meeting is a call to action for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. Our demand for a world where Black families no longer have to bury their loved ones while those in uniform hide behind badges and bureaucracy is not radical nor is it unrealistic, it is long overdue.
Members of the press are urged to attend and bear witness to this moment of candor that sits inside of a movement for justice.
