Longmont, Colo. – Jake Marsing, a fourth generation Longmont local and lifelong progressive advocate announced his candidacy for Longmont City Council today. He will be seeking one of the two At-Large seats up in this upcoming November’s municipal election.
Marsing, a 30-year-old husband, father, and educator with experience as a legislative aide, community activist, and Vice Chair of Longmont’s Housing and Human Services Advisory Board, grew up in a diverse, low-income neighborhood in north Longmont. He is running to be a strong advocate for working people on City Council.
On council, Marsing will work to increase home affordability and access to both for sale and rental housing, lower costs for residents, encourage sustainable growth, and find real solutions so working people can put down roots in our community.
“My family has been part of this community for five generations,” Marsing said. “I love this city. It’s in my blood. But Longmont isn’t the same farm town my great-grandparents settled in. It’s not even the bedroom community I grew up in. Today, we’re a twenty-first century city facing twenty-first-century challenges: soaring housing costs, unaffordable and inaccessible childcare, and tough decisions about growth, sustainability, and our environment. We need leadership that stands up for working class folks, protects what makes Longmont special, and honors our past but is ready to take bold action for the future.. That’s why I’m running—to build a Longmont for everybody.”
Marsing’s top priorities are expanding access to affordable and attainable housing, sustainable growth, and addressing the economic crisis facing working families burdened by skyrocketing childcare costs. Jake brings innovative, compassionate and comprehensive solutions to the table and is ready to address the city’s most pressing issues. He is ready to be a voice for those who need representation the most.
Marsing enters the race endorsed by many of Longmont’s strongest leaders including: Congressman Joe Neguse, Rep. Karen McCormick and Mayor Pro-Tem Susie Hidalgo-Fahring, with the full list of endorsers available on his website, along with a launch video outlining his vision. He is a trusted community partner and leader.
Whether it’s in his past career serving Longmont residents as an aide in the legislature, fighting for progressive candidates and causes, or as an award-winning educator, Jake believes in working tirelessly toward solutions that support the most vulnerable Longmont residents. He looks forward to bringing that passion, energy, and vision to the community he loves throughout the campaign and beyond.
