Dear Neighbor,

As you may know, Medicaid and critical federal programs that serve countless Coloradans are currently on the chopping block in Congressional Republicans’ proposed federal budget. Behind closed doors, these lawmakers are plotting to cut vital lifelines for families across our state—potentially slashing affordable and accessible healthcare to the tune of $880 billion. For Coloradans on the Western Slope, rural Colorado, and across the Front Range, these cuts would be devastating and put many at risk of not receiving the healthcare they need, including treatments and medication.

On our Medicaid Day of Action earlier this week, Governor Jared Polis and I toured a local clinic in Lafayette to underscore the importance of community health centers and vowed to continue pushing back on behalf of the 89,445 individuals in Colorado’s 2nd District who are at risk of losing their health care coverage.

Also this week, I was grateful to join Boulder County’s elected leaders for a conversation on the road ahead. As Coloradans contend with the harmful impacts of the Trump Administration’s unlawful directives, it is essential we have community-focused discussions on the priorities at risk.

I also convened leaders from across the Front Range, including experts from Colorado’s federal research labs, for a roundtable at CU Boulder to discuss how we can continue to grow our innovation ecosystem. With the administration’s ongoing attempts to freeze federal funding, critical support for our research labs remains in jeopardy. I will continue fighting to protect the resources needed for groundbreaking research across Colorado.

Last week, as the federal government funding deadline was near, House Republican leadership decided to use valuable time to focus on what? Dishwashers, pool heaters, and ice makers. No, seriously.

In case you missed it, watch my remarks on the House Floor calling out my colleagues for their misguided priorities HERE.
