“The Excellence Beneath My Feet Lives Within My Bones, The Genome Speaks What Erasure Cannot Silence”

February 20 – March 29, 2026 | Boulder, CO

Marking the fifth year of the exhibition, Black Futures in Art 2026: The Excellence Beneath My Feet Lives Within My Bones, The Genome Speaks What Erasure Cannot Silence is both a celebration and a continuum—honoring lineage, creative inheritance, and the living brilliance of Black artists shaping contemporary art today. What began as a visionary idea has grown into a powerful gathering of artists, families, voices, and futures. Over five years, Black Futures in Art has become a vital cultural touchstone in Boulder County—one rooted in joy, excellence, and collective imagination. This anniversary edition reflects on that journey while looking boldly forward, affirming that what we carry within us—memory, knowledge, and creative force—is unerasable and encoded.

The exhibition features works by Adderly Grant-Lord, Adri Norris, Clifton Henri, Gedion Nyanhongo, James Dixon, Lydia Carlis, Louise Cutler, SaToro Tafura, Sir James McArthur Cole, Thomas Lockhart, and Zin Maisiri. Together, these artists present work forged from lived experience, ancestral memory, and expansive imagination. Across mediums, the exhibition explores how history, land, body, and spirit hold knowledge, and how art becomes a conduit for resilience, joy, and transformation.
