Boulder, Colorado — National nonprofit Music to Life (MtL) has added Boulder-based singer-songwriter Marilyn Walker (https://www.musictolife.org/portfolio/marilyn-walker) to its juried roster of socially conscious musicians. Founded by 60’s civil rights icon Noel Paul Stookey (Peter, Paul & Mary) and his daughter Liz Stookey Sunde, MtL is dedicated to cultivating & empowering a network of musician change agents. Being added to the MtL roster requires demonstration of significant talent and an active artist career, including touring and recording, along with a commitment to social change.

Marilyn Walker was added on the basis of her activism in raising awareness and funds for TGTHR (Together, We Can End Youth Homelessness) and Recovery Cafe Longmont, as well as her songs focusing on homelessness, immigration, climate change, and the impacts of war. Marilyn is the founder of local non-profit Connected by Music (CbM), which is dedicated to using the power of music to support a connected, sustainable society and planet. Her intention is to broaden the scope and reach of CbM’s activities in 2026, and this new partnership with MtL will offer resources, training, and connections with a national organization founded by a civil rights musician-icon.

CbM is hosting a benefit concert to raise funds for Longmont non-profit Recovery Cafe on April 25, 2026. Marilyn is included as one of three featured songwriters performing to bring awareness and support to the Boulder County community that is lifting up those in recovery.

About Juried Artist Roster

The artists Music to Life chooses to add to their Juried Artist Roster are talented, socially conscious musicians and educators across genres, styles, and generations. MtL’s mission is to connect socially conscious musicians with the mentors, resources, and training needed to realize bold visions for community change. Juried artists work with MtL to build their entrepreneurial skills as change agents, mentor next-generation artists, identify and secure funding and promotional opportunities, and collaborate on music-driven social change projects.

About Marilyn Walker

Marilyn Walker fuses lyrics, melody, and storytelling from her North Carolina and Floridian upbringing, along with her background as an ecologist, at the core of her work. A storytelling troubadour who has been described as “John Prine meets Winnie the Pooh,” Marilyn brings things to life in a way you’ve never thought about before, through well-chosen lyrics and catchy tunes. Marilyn is currently working on a new studio album, Water’s Gonna Rise, focusing on climate change as well as the human impacts of the rapidly changing world – homelessness, addiction, and injustice.

A Night of Music with a Mission

This uplifting event on April 25th will bring the community together for an evening of music, connection, and purpose, with proceeds directly supporting Recovery Café Longmont’s programs that provide stability, peer support, meals, classes, and pathways to long-term recovery.
