I have bad news to share. The Colorado Secretary of State has validated signatures for a ballot initiative that targets transgender youth and their families. That means Colorado voters will vote in the November 2026 election on whether to ban transgender youth from playing school sports.

The initiative would ban transgender youth of any age from playing sports alongside their classmates. This tells trans kids they don’t belong at an age when all kids need to feel included and supported.

The research is clear: excluding youth from sports and other group activities causes lasting harm to their mental health and development.

This is an effort to make bullying trans kids the law and is a part of a national extremist agenda targeting trans youth. Similar pieces of legislation have been rejected by our own state legislature multiple times, but a small group of hateful people decided that if they couldn’t win in the statehouse, they’d go around it. And now it’s up to us to stop them.

Our children’s futures are being shaped by politics and hate, rather than their own parents, coaches, and local communities.

Will you help us fight for Colorado families and their right to make their own decisions?

Between now and November, our Hands Off Colorado campaign will be doing the work:

  • educating voters
  • building partnerships with educators, parents, coaches, and faith communities
  • making sure Coloradans understand what’s really at stake

We’ve faced attacks like this before. Our community has always risen to meet them, and we will this time, too.

Colorado’s LGBTQ+ youth are worth fighting for. Their families are worth fighting for. I hope you’ll join us.

With determination,

Mardi Moore (she)
