Boulder launches “Share the Path” courtesy campaign as more people roll around town

City to increase education and safety awareness for people biking, scooting, and rolling

BOULDER, Colo. — Boulder is launching a spring safety and education campaign to support building a community culture of courtesy as more people share spaces on our streets when walking and using micromobility — smaller-scale travel choices like scooters, skateboards, and bikes. The city will post signs and flyers around town and share the campaign on social media in the coming weeks. A media kit with digital materials is available for partners and the public to share with their communities.

Micromobility provides more convenient, equitable, and sustainable ways for community members of all abilities to move around Boulder. These devices help close gaps in Boulder’s transportation network, especially to bus stops. The city encourages community members to:

  • Be aware. When driving, look for people walking, biking, and rolling.
  • Be mindful. Move with care and make space for others on shared paths.
  • Be predictable. When turning or crossing, smile, signal, or wave.
  • Walk right and pass left. Slow down, yield, and give space when passing.
  • Signal audibly to let others know you’re passing.
  • Be here now: enjoy the journey. Take in Boulder views and take the time to enjoy the social connection that slower travel offers.

“Enjoying moving about our city, no matter how you travel, should be a comfortable experience for everyone, and safe travel starts with neighborly travel,” said Transportation and Mobility Director Blythe Bailey. “Used responsibly, walking and using these devices offer independence to get around town for those who can’t or choose not to drive, whether for children biking to school or older adults on mobility scooters enjoying spring’s arrival in their neighborhood. Look out for each other — Boulder is better when we move together.”

The city also offers a Shared Micromobility program to support the city’s transportation and climate goals and the community’s quality of life in Boulder. Learn more on the city website about what devices are allowed and where, the E-Bike Buying Guide, and Share the Path.
