Stephen Marley started dancing alongside his reggae legend father Bob as soon as he could walk. With that kind of early experience in the spotlight, it’d be safe to assume he was destined for fame himself. But for the most part he has been the creative force behind the careers of his brothers. Until now. Stephen, the most decorated Grammy winner in reggae, stepped out of the background with his debut album that took home (surprise) the Grammy for Best Reggae Album this year.
Mind Control is a perfect blend of modern sounds and classic roots vibes, all the sounds and styles that Marley loves. Snoop Dogg even makes an appearance on the outing. Meshing reggae and rock and nyabinghi rhythms, the album is full of meaning. He doesn’t sound like his legendary dad all that much, but there is a reason Stephen has more Grammys than any other reggae musician—see why this weekend.
