SHAVE OFF SOME COINAGE WITH REDLASER

Compare prices locally and internationally, avoid allergens and buy on the spot. RedLaser makes your smartphone into your personal smart-shopper. This popular app began in Boulder from company Occipital. In June, eBay bought the app from the company to further develop it as the company outgrew the capacity of Occiptial’s basement office. Made in Boulder, bought by eBay? It must be good. RedLaser works like this: Scan the barcode or QR code of an item and it will find the best price locally or online. You can opt to buy on the spot with your phone and the store will be waiting with your purchase. RedLaser also offers exclusive deals for online and in-store ranging from half off a regular priced item at JoAnn’s to $25 off of $60 and free shipping at New York & Company.

At the grocery store, the app can also be used to scan items and then alert you as to what common allergens are in the product. If you have a little one who needs to stay away from peanuts or gluten, this product could save you a whole lot of time surfing through the nutrition facts.

LET SOMEONE ELSE DECIDE

Buying a big ticket item is comparable to painstakingly deciding the best way to die. It requires months of researching and hours of time spent in electronic stores, only to buy a plasma that’s either put on sale the next week or released in a newer model. Skip the purgatory-like steps and let someone else do the work for you with the mobile app, Decide. Search an item you’re looking to purchase and Decide will compare prices, reviews and locations all while determining when the best time to buy the product is.

According to Decide, prices change daily for 20 percent of products. To get around this, Decide predicts the future of prices (which is 77 percent accurate) and tells you when you will get the lowest price. If a price drops after you buy a product and they didn’t predict it, Decide pays you the difference. The app also keeps tabs of when new products will be released so you get the best product possible.
