Missouri emo-indie band Never Shout Never plays the Marquis in Denver this week (Feb 25) as part of their Mid Winter’s Nights Dream Acoustik Tour. To celebrate, we spoke to founder and frontman Christofer Drew…M

Yellow Scene: Your band is eight years old now. How has it grown?

Christofer Drew: The band started when I was young, 16. I’m 24 now. We’ve evolved a lot. The sound has matured, we’re better with our instruments, and our songwriting is better. At this point, we’re starting to figure out our sound.

YS: Why did you want to do an acoustic tour?

CD: We’re coming back after a two-year hiatus and I wanted to do something to cater to die-hard fans. We’re playing smaller venues.

YS: Do you like playing Colorado?

CD: I love Colorado. It’s always a good time. I know the weather is bad now, but I love it there.

YS: What are your plans for the set?

CD: Lots of old songs, and lots of new songs too. We have a brand new song that no one’s heard called “Black Cat,” that will come out later this year. It will be a stripped down set – we all have microphones so we’ll be doing four-part harmonies.

YS: When this tour’s done, what do you have planned for the rest of the year?

CD: We’re going to SXSW. After that, we have a South American tour planned, then we’ll be putting “Black Cat” out – our comeback record after a long hiatus. It’s like a pop record.

Never Shout Never plays with Me Like Bees and Hayley Kiyoko at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25 at the Marquis Theater; 2009 Larimer St., Denver; 303-487-0111; $20-$22.
