The Boulder Opera returns with a free family open air concert – Opera in the Park: Potions and Gypsies

Boulder Opera is excited to announce our big return on stage with “Opera in the Park 2021” at the Boulder Bandshell on August 14th at 7:00 PM. With the support of the City of Boulder, we will present a concert with a focus on love, tragedy, gypsies and potions in Italian opera. The concert will have two parts: the first one with love and tragedy scenes from Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, and Verdi’s Il trovatore and La Traviata; the second half will present comic and love scenes from Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love.

This concert will feature local singers and artists such as Phoenix Gayles, Dianela Acosta, Nathan Snyder, Benjamin Boskoff, Nnamdi Nwankwo, Alexis Haro, Linsey Duca, Eve Orenstein, and more, under the music direction of Jorge Salazar, stage direction of Dana Kinney, and Nathalia Kato at the piano.

Stage Director Dana Kinney, tells us about this concert “I’m thrilled to be directing with Boulder Opera Company this summer, not only to be rehearsing again, but to reconnect with the music community that I’ve held so dear. I’m looking forward to bringing Opera back along with human connection that isn’t behind a screen.”

You can bring your family, friends, or a date! which is part of what makes Opera in the Park one of our most popular events of the year. It allows the Boulder community to experience opera in a unique, casual setting while providing performance opportunities for local musicians.

You can also enjoy the concert with a picnic basket and drinks. VIP seating and picnic tables are reserved for patrons who have purchased a picnic basket. The sales will help the Boulder Opera fund the production of this free concert.

This event has a capped attendance and registration is required. Please visit http://www.boulderoperacompany.com/opera-in-the-park-2021 for more information. Thank you for helping us keep our community safe! While this is a free event, we will be selling opera t-shirts, drinks, and accepting donations.

About the Boulder Opera Company

The Boulder Opera is committed to making opera accessible, inspiring, and engaging for our community. Our goal is to cultivate new audiences for this old art form, enrich the lives of our community, and provide opportunities for local musicians. Through our Family Series, we explore abridged repertoire with a narrator and an ensemble orchestra. Our full-length productions, which include standard, contemporary, and rarely performed works, are experimental in nature, seeking to reach and entertain new audiences and delight the old. In addition, our outreach program is designed to inspire and educate the upcoming generation about opera and connect to other disciplines through our study guides and free workshops.
