Founded in 2000, the SFWSC is the oldest spirits competition in North America, and as of 2022, is now the largest in the world. Seventy judges from around the globe evaluated the 5,000-plus entries from 40 different countries beginning March 15. The SFWSC announced the winners for the 2022 competition on the Tasting Alliance website on April 12, 2022.

“We’re thrilled to have won two double gold medal awards at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition,” said Alastair Brogan, owner and chieftain, Boulder Spirits. “This awards win goes to show that great whiskey is being made everywhere; not just in Indiana, Kentucky, Scotland, but in Colorado, too,” Brogan added.

Boulder Spirits’ Bottled in Bond American Single Malt Whiskey was one of the first bottled-in-bond single malts in the USA. Aged four years and bottled at 100 proof, this whiskey is luscious, rich and developed, with notes of dark molasses, toasted bread, faint fig and raspberry, and cocoa dust. Boulder Spirits’ Bottled in Bond Bourbon, also aged four years and bottled at 100 proof, has an atypical bourbon mash bill of 51% corn, 44% malted barley and 5% rye. The result is a delicious bourbon with notes of oatmeal cookies, candied ginger, and allspice.

Founded in 2008, Vapor Distillery is Boulder County’s oldest distillery. Brogan joined the team in 2012 and brought with him a 1,500-gallon copper pot still, hand-forged in his native Scotland by Forsyths, copper pot still makers since 1890. Vapor Distillery’s copper pot still is the largest in the western U.S. Boulder Spirits ages its American single malt whiskeys in white oak barrels made from Missouri oak trees, and gets its water from Eldorado Springs just outside Boulder, one of the purest natural springs in the world.
