DENVER – Today the House Business Affairs and Labor Committee will consider the Worker Protection Act (SB25-005). The bill will eliminate the second election requirement in Colorado labor law in order to expand workers’ freedom to negotiate for better pay and workplace safety, and stop state interference in employer-employee negotiations.

The Colorado Fiscal Institute published a report citing Economic Policy Institute data showing union workers earn 10% more than non-union ones with similar jobs and qualifications – and state researchers project that if the bill passes, Colorado’s almost 2.5 million private sector workers will earn $2,300 more per year, totalling nearly $6 billion for working families each year.
