DENVER — In response to the United States Senate’s passage of President Trump’s Big Ugly Bill, referring it back to the House of Representatives, Colorado Democratic Party Chair Shad Murib issued the following statement:

“Today, Senate Republicans voted to screw over Coloradans and every working class American family. Their billionaire-first budget enriches the wealthiest in our state and country and forces working class Coloradans and families to pay for it by robbing them of their health insurance, putting rural hospitals at risk, taking food off the table and killing good-paying jobs.

We are thankful for the leadership of Colorado Senators Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper in voting against the Colorado GOP and President Trump’s disastrous, wildly unpopular Big Ugly Bill, forcing Vice President JD Vance to break a gridlocked tie after over 24 hours of fight, debate, and amendments from Senate Democrats.

While we wish that Lauren Boebert, Gabe Evans, Jeff Crank, and Jeff Hurd could summon even an ounce of the courage that the three Senate Republicans who voted no on this legislation did, our expectations are very low: they take orders from Trump – not their constituents; that’s why you won’t find them at an in-person town hall or, in Gabe and Lauren’s case, in their districts at all.”

Trump’s Big Ugly Bill puts Coloradans’ health care, food assistance and jobs on the chopping block…

Luckily, we have fighters in Colorado’s Democratic Congressional Delegation in Representatives Jason Crow, Diana DeGette, Joe Neguse and Brittany Pettersen. This bill is not passing without a fight in DC or in Colorado.”
