Denver, CO — On Tuesday, March 31, 2026, the Colorado State Capitol complex will host a special performance of TRANSformative Stories by Motus Theater in honor of International Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV). The event, hosted by State Representative Brianna Titone, Colorado’s first and only transgender legislator, will bring autobiographical monologues from faith and transgender leader Rev. Nicole Garcia and the parent of a transgender adult, Cindy Frances, into the heart of the state’s legislative community.

The performance, sponsored by One Colorado, comes at a moment of heightened national debate around transgender rights, including efforts by outside groups to advance ballot measures that would impact transgender and nonbinary youth in Colorado.

“Transgender people have always been here and always will be,” said Rep. Brianna Titone (HD27). “For me, every day is a day of transgender visibility, because it’s about showing those who come after us that life can be beautiful, bright, and sometimes wonderfully ordinary. Trans people deserve to be celebrated and to live as themselves, not as a spectacle or a token, but simply as part of the communities we love. Motus Theater’s performance honoring Transgender Day of Visibility at the Colorado Capitol affirms exactly that.”

International Transgender Day of Visibility, observed annually on March 31, celebrates the contributions of transgender and nonbinary people while raising awareness about ongoing discrimination and policy challenges.

About the Performance:

The program features selections from two Motus Theater projects:

TRANSformative Stories: Autobiographical Monologues from Transgender & Nonbinary Leaders

What Love Requires: Stories from Parents of Transgender & Nonbinary Adults

Together, these monologues explore identity, family, policy, and belonging, offering legislators and community members personal stories from individuals with lived experiences to shape today’s policy conversations.

“Transgender Day of Visibility is about more than being seen; it’s about being understood,” said David B., Motus Theater TRANSformative Stories project strategist and monologist, when asked about the relevance of bringing this performance to the Capitol Complex. “Through these monologues, we share stories of resilience, family, and belonging that remind audiences that transgender and nonbinary people are part of every community in Colorado. Bringing these stories to the Capitol ensures that our humanity is present in the conversations shaping our future.”

One Colorado Development and Communications Manager, Cal Solverson, adds, “At One Colorado, we know that sharing our stories of love, resistance, and self-discovery is where true change begins. While facts provide data, our lived experiences have the unique power to shift perspectives.

It is more vital than ever to uplift the voices of our transgender, non-binary, and gender-expansive community. By sharing our journeys, we combat the misinformation and division used to silence us. We must continue to show up where decisions are made, like the Colorado State Capitol, and fight for one another, knowing that our liberation is intrinsically linked.”

By bringing personal storytelling directly into Colorado’s legislative center, the event aims to bridge cultural understanding and policymaking at a critical moment for transgender rights nationwide.
