Boulder International Film Festival Announces 2027 Dates, Celebrates Record Crowds During 22nd Season

The four-day festival broke revenue records in 2026, sold out 20 screenings and events, and welcomed 75 filmmakers to Boulder.

BOULDER, CO (May 7, 2026) — The Boulder International Film Festival announced today the dates for its 23rd annual festival: April 8 to 11, 2027.

This news arrives as the festival celebrates its 22nd season, which ran from April 9 to 12, 2026, and saw more attendees than ever. This year’s BIFF included 69 films from 29 countries, record-breaking revenue, more individual tickets and passes sold than in any previous year, and 20 sold-out screenings and events.

“Our new spring dates worked really well,” said Kathy Beeck, co-founder and festival director. “The Pearl Street Mall was bustling. The tulips were in bloom, and the weather was just about perfect for running a film festival.”

“This year we welcomed a record-breaking 75 filmmakers and subjects to BIFF,” said Robin Beeck, co-founder and executive director. “The presence of so many creatives sparked unforgettable conversations. Audiences especially appreciated the chance to connect directly with the artists behind the films.”

This year’s festival marked BIFF’s move to April dates, in anticipation of the arrival of the Sundance Film Festival in Boulder in January 2027. Now in its third decade, BIFF has long made the case that Boulder is a city that takes cinema seriously; this year’s record-breaking turnout made that case louder than ever.
