After nearly five successful years at the RiNo Art Park, Alto Gallery – a program of Denver-based 501(c)(3) non-profit BirdSeed Collective – is moving to a new location at 3773 Walnut St., Denver, CO in July 2026. The new space is still in the neighborhood and offers a more open wall and floor plan, better street-level access, and close proximity to many restaurants, bars, shops, galleries, and music venues. It’s a new and exciting chapter full of changes, and Alto Gallery is dedicated to continuing our mission, programming, and support of the Denver artist community.

Alto Gallery has been a programming partner at the Art Park since its grand opening in the fall of 2021. As the lease at our previous location in the Tennyson/Berkley neighborhood was ending, Louise Martorano (now Managing Director of National Programs of CAST Colorado and former Executive Director of RedLine) generously invited us to move to the then-newly opened RedLine satellite studios at the RiNo Art Park. The new development promised public-private partnerships with the City of Denver, Denver Parks and Recreation, RiNo Art District (RAD), RedLine Contemporary Art Center, Denver Public Library, and Comal/Focus Points Family Resource Center. Along with sharing space with the subsidized RedLine satellite studios, Alto Gallery helped activate the studios and Art Park with monthly art exhibitions and free programming to the public.

During our time at the Art Park, Alto Gallery has presented 57 exhibitions (36 solo, 21 group), inviting at least 13,533 guests (by our clicker count). In addition to sharing original artworks from 312 contemporary artists (local, national, and international), we have invited visitors to numerous talks with artists, guest speakers, and curators; creative workshops and demonstrations from exhibiting and guest artists; musical, dance, spoken word, comedy, and experimental performances; community potlucks, movie nights, art markets, special art installations and murals, and more.

Being at the Art Park for almost five years has afforded us so many collaborative and community-oriented opportunities. Sharing space with the studio artists has been an incredible experience, resulting in so many rich conversations, collaborations, exhibitions, and studio tours. Our partnership with RedLine and funding from RAD yielded collaborative summer programming over three years. We spoke at the Mayor’s Latino Heritage Month Celebration at the Art Park’s event space, the Truss House. Alto Gallery collaborated with the Denver Public Library’s neighboring Bob Ragland Branch to overlap our programming schedules to offer jam-packed all-day experiences for visitors. We also worked with numerous food and drink vendors and sponsors to offer guests a variety of delicious cuisine and refreshments.

With generous funding from Bonfils-Stanton Foundation, Colorado Creative Industries, Denver Arts & Venues, and RiNo Art District, we have been able to not only provide free programming for the public but also support artists, curators, and guest speakers with honorariums. In an effort to support artists even more, we also increased their percentage of sales proceeds (artists receive 70% of sales, compared to the usual 50 – 60% in most spaces).

Alto Gallery is incredibly thankful for the time we’ve spent at the Art Park, but our lease is, unfortunately, not being renewed. We hope the RAD continues to offer exhibitions, free programming, and subsidized studio spaces for artists at the Art Park studios for years to come. We believe that rent-stable and affordable spaces like these are absolutely necessary for maintaining and growing the creative culture that makes the art district such a draw for visitors and businesses alike. Nevertheless, Alto Gallery is also thankful to be able to continue our mission, programming, and support of the Denver art community in a beautiful space close by.

Alto Gallery will be taking a break throughout July to transition to the new space and complete necessary buildout (including a new wall, lighting, painting, and floor refinishing). Please join us again on Friday, August 7, 6 – 10 PM at the grand opening of our new space (3773 Walnut St., Denver, CO) and opening reception of Light Wait, a duo exhibition featuring Mindy Bray and Jessica Forrestal, and guest curated by Drew Austin.
