BOULDER, CO (July 21, 2026) — Today the Boulder International Film Festival (BIFF) announces dates for the 23rd edition of its critically acclaimed festival: April 8 to 11, 2027. Film submissions are open now, with an early deadline of August 21.

Last year BIFF moved its festival dates to April, from its usual early March, in anticipation of Sundance Film Festival’s arrival in Boulder this January.

“Our 2026 festival was one of our best and busiest yet,” said Robin Beeck, executive director of BIFF. “We’re entering our third decade of bringing our community together through the power of film, and it’s exciting to see Boulder earning national recognition as one of the country’s premier hubs for filmmakers, storytelling, and creative collaboration.”

BIFF has grown into one of the country’s most celebrated film festivals, featuring new, emerging, and A-list filmmakers, award-winning actors, special guests, and 25,000 attendances annually.

BIFF offers filmmakers a premier launchpad. Films compete for the coveted Grand Jury Prize and People’s Choice Awards before top industry leaders, distributors, and producers. BIFF rolls out the carpet for filmmakers especially, offering lodging for out-of-state filmmakers, a travel allowance for feature-length filmmakers, and a filmmaker liaison to ensure an unforgettable festival experience.

Film submissions have several rolling deadlines:

  • Early deadline: August 21
  • Regular deadline: October 2
  • Late deadline: November 6
  • Extended deadline: December 11

Over the past two decades, BIFF has hosted some of the industry’s most talented artists, including Laura Linney, Jesse Eisenberg, Shirley MacLaine, Martin Sheen, William H. Macy, Blythe Danner, Alec Baldwin, James Franco, and director Oliver Stone, along with many special guests including Presidential Medal of Freedom-honoree Congressman John Lewis and legendary musicians David Crosby, Jakob Dylan, and Robbie Robertson of “The Band.”

BIFF is honored to be one of a small number of festivals where Scott Feinberg of The Hollywood Reporter records his celebrated Awards Chatter podcast in person, featuring the most interesting and accomplished people in the industry. Past interviewees at BIFF include award-winning actors Javier Bardem, F. Murray Abraham, and Tony Goldwyn.

BIFF accepts submissions for short films, feature films, documentaries, animation, adventure films, and student film submissions. Find more information at biff1.com/filmmakers.
