Psych-rockers Talk in Tongues plays the Bluebird in May, so we spoke with McCoy Kirgo about what we can expect.P
Yellow Scene: When did the band form, and what was the mission?
McCoy Kirgo: The band formed in December of 2013, and we had all been in other bands that we weren’t exactly happy with, myself especially. I wanted to be working with people that were really looking to make music a career and really push the band. When I reached out to these guys to start a solid band, we all went into it with a strong idea about the kind of music that we wanted to make, and I think that’s really important.
YS: Describe the sound…
MK: Recently, I’ve been calling it psych-pop, but it would fall under the psych-rock of today.
YS: Do you like playing Colorado?
MK: This is my first time playing Colorado. I’ve got some friends there so that will be really fun, and I hear it’s beautiful so I’m really looking forward to it.
YS: What can we expect from the set?
MK: You can expect us to play six songs off the record, and it’s gonna be loud and it’s gonna be a good time I hope.
YS: When the tour’s over, what’s next?
MK: I think we’re all looking forward to doing a little bit more writing, because we’ve all got a lot of ideas right now for the second album and all that. I’m probably jumping the gun a little bit there. What’s really next for us is pushing out first album, because that comes out May 19, right after the tour ends. It’s probably going to be a lot of pushing of that, more tours and summer festivals.
