Evolving Visions of Land and Landscape at BMOCA
Exploring the work of 26 different artists who have called Boulder home any time from now all the way back to the 19th Century, Evolving Visions of Land and Landscape explores the land in a variety of different media. Abstract, metaphorical, realistic takes on the greater Boulder landscape also mingle with a few from other regions — all telling the story of the beauty to behold on our little blue marble. White Fudge at Herman’s Hideaway
When it comes to foul-mouthed profanity with a fat groove and bomb-dropping backbeat, the list of great local rap acts is surprisingly light. Thanks to White Fudge, there’s at least a standard for anyone looking to fill the void. It’s an all-star group of sorts, featuring players from MF Ruckus, Cocktail Revolution and The Samples to name a few. Their list of accolades includes gigs with Naughty by Nature, Vanilla Ice and Rahzel, and they recorded the theme song for Season Three of the Travel Channel network’s popular show Trip Flip. One Death, Please? at The Bug Theatre

Equinox Theatre Company at The Bug Theatre is offering a world premiere for your consideration. One Death, Please? is a dark comedy about a pop star who seems to have it all, though she’s not truly happy. When she seeks to take her own life with the help of an assisted suicide clinic she finds out that, much like her life, nothing is what it seems. This world premiere by local playwright Christian Munck is equal parts funny and captivating while shining a harsh light on the brutality of the popular media. Everyone of us is here on this earth for a reason. But that reason gets lost in all the static and drama. Lives are devalued. Divisions are fostered. Isolation leaves us dying inside. During an election season it can feel like conversation is impossible. Like we’re afraid to even speak. But real transformation requires relationships. We have to talk to each other. It’s time to spread a different kind of message. Your life matters. No matter how isolated you may feel, you are not alone. The world needs you. No matter what stories are spoon-fed to you by social media algorithms, do not make your neighbors into enemies. This world needs them. No matter who may try to separate us, we must not succumb to scapegoating. This worlds needs us all. Real changes are needed. Another world is possible and we are meant to build it together. Our mentor, Vincent Harding, used to say he was a citizen of a nation that did not yet exist. That nation can only exist if we value each other. So, when people stand and declare that their lives matter, we agree, and by agreeing we assert that “your life matters.” When politicians demonize immigrants and refugees, we raise our voices louder and say “your life matters.” When one of us is ready to give up, we say it louder than ever. Boulder Ensemble Theatre Company is offering up a world premiere play, which was also the winner of its first Generations play competition. Full Code by David Valdes Greenwood is a story about a man named Sander who ends up in a coma after a freak accident. When his estranged wife Callie and a friend of his both take turns at his bedside, he must decide who he wants more and which life he’ll lead when, and if, he wakes up. It’s a powerful look into the human mind filled with humor and passion. Full Code runs Oct. 20 through Nov. 13 at the Dairy Arts Center in Boulder.
