Tough Hill To Climb

There’s a ground swell of support for a proposal to share sales tax revenue throughout the region, but the city of Longmont just proved why it may be a tough fight. The way state law works, cities pay for virtually everything with sales tax revenue—this has lead to numerous battles between communities. It looks like Longmont has been burned too many times by its Boulder County counterparts, and it won’t contribute to a study that will produce revenue-sharing options. For this to be a regional effort, Longmont needs to reconsider.

What’s Next: The Boulder County Consortium of Governments still appears to have enough momentum to fund the $49,000 study.
