Flower Child is here. Are you ready? Opening on Wednesday, August 22 in Boulder at 2580 Arapahoe Avenue, this new entry to the gastro-good landscape keeping BOCO a foodie heaven offers “conveniently nutritious and delicious dishes, including salads, hummus, soups, plates, bowls, wraps and a kids menu in a light and airy environment with modern bohemian decor. Flower Child is celebrating its opening by donating a portion of proceeds from grand opening day to local non-profit Boulder Food Rescue and providing several local-inspired giveaways for its first customers,” according to a press release.
We sent Sandra Samman, founder of Whole Health in Motion and a local chef, to check it out. Here’s what she said:
Flower child is a healthy eaters dream come true. As you walk into the restaurant you are met with a rustic farmers market feel. The gorgeous framed windows that run down the side of the restaurant give it a light airy feel.
You order food at the counter then, it’s brought to your wood table with wicker chairs. There are so many healthy high nutrient dense options to choose from where do you begin? Everything had fresh healthy ingredients incorporated in each dish. They also paid attention to dietary restrictions. Most everything was gluten free. They had many vegan options as well.
The food is delivered to your table, in a prompt manner – happy about that, since I couldn’t wait to dive into my food choices. Everything I tried had a wonderful balance of flavors. It tasted flavorful, fresh, clean and it was so colorful, you could tell it was all extremely healthy ingredients.
I ordered the strawberry fields salad: it was a flavorful mixture of toppings, greens and tasty vinegarette. Would order again.
Next, I tried the madras curry which had a mixture of crisp haricots verre and heirloom carrots on top that was unexpected but so good; the madras curry wasn’t spicy hot but had the rich layers of garam marsala spiked with sweet raisins. Delicious!
The kale salad was amazing, there was no bitter kale taste to it. The kale was cut so small, that it made it easy to eat.
And for desert, I tried the Lemon cakes. It had the amount of lemon flavor this lemon lover craves (a lot), balanced with sweetness.
I love the entire concept of this restaurant. It is a healthy foodies dream. I will most definitely be back.
Flower Child will be open for lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The restaurant is located at 2580 Arapahoe Avenue in Boulder, Colo.
