Summer is around the corner and now is the best time to prepare. With the uncertainty of the pandemic lingering and hope on the horizon as more and more people are vaccinated, parents around the country are starting to wonder how and if summer camps will function this season. A study released by the CDC involving four summer camps in Maine and over 1000 participants showed summer camps do have the capability to safely function during Covid-19 with the right precautions. Summer camps are also incredibly beneficial to young people. According to the American Camp Association, “Camp provides children with a community of caring adults, who nurture experiential education that results in self-respect and appreciation for human value. All of the outcomes – self-identity, self-worth, self-esteem, leadership, and self-respect – build personal competencies.” Other skills include Social Development, Character Building, and Community Services Skills.
Yellow Scene prides itself on providing the most up to date and thorough directory in Boulder County, but we are still in a pandemic and the risks are very real. We hope that summer camps can one day safely serve our communities again, so before choosing, it’s wise to consider the state of public health in your community and that of where the camp is located, in addition to the protocols in place at the camp.
