It was just a matter of time before the Second Congressional District race got downright ugly. That time seems to have come in the last week as mail-in ballots for the Democratic primary started arriving at homes throughout the district that spans Adams and Boulder counties and several mountain communities along the I-70 corridor. The Second Congressional District Democratic primary pitting Jared Polis (wealthy philanthropist), Joan Fitz-Gerald (first woman to serve as president of the state’s senate majority) and Will Shafroth (career conservationist) against each other has been an amazing race to cover. (more…)

If you can’t arrest a gay couple for trying to get married, at least you can fine them 41 bucks and dish out 28 hours of community service. That’s the punishment doled out to Kate Burns and Sheila Schroeder, a couple convicted Wednesday of trespassing for staging a sit in at the Denver county clerk’s office in protest of the Colorado law banning same-sex marriages.
