The Throwback

 

This is a new take on the classic, Old Fashioned. The cocktail is made by muddling sugar with bitters and adding alcohol and a citrus twist. The Throwback mixes it up with the tea-infused rye—which, by the way, makes an incredibly simple (and welcome) DIY holiday gift, especially when paired with the recipe for this delicious drink. Make it for an intimate dinner or as the featured cocktail for a bigger event.

1 maraschino cherry

1 orange slice

1/2 oz. luxardo maraschino liqueur

1 1/2 oz. orange tea rye (see below)

2 dashes of orange bitters

soda

1. Muddle 1 cherry and 1 orange slice in a lowball glass.

2. Combine all ingredients, add ice and stir.

3. Top with a splash of soda.

For Orange Tea Rye:
Steep the rye with orange tea for approximately 30 minutes per liter. Use 4 T of loose tea per liter of rye.
