Artworks from the collection of Colorado-based seed and garden products company Botanical Interests LLC highlight the unique connection between art and nature in flower, vegetable and herb seed packet design. Seeds of Inspiration features 21 contemporary artworks alongside early 20th century garden catalogs, seed boxes and other materials from Denver Botanic Gardens’ Helen Fowler Library. On view in the Freyer – Newman Center January 18 – May 20, 2025. Included with Gardens’ admission.
The artists use colored pencils, watercolor and watercolor pencils to render highly detailed botanical art. Some artists draw from live specimens provided by Botanical Interests. Because these artworks were made for marketing purposes, they depict plants in their most perfect form with enhanced colors and shapes. Several featured artists are instructors at or former students of the Gardens’ School of Botanical Art & Illustration.

Event Details
In the Kingdom of Spinar, there are seven rules for safeguarding your soul from the Sorrows and Nightmare creatures—most importantly: never, ever enter the Labyrinth of Souls.
Ix Tatterfall has always been an outcast with big secrets: She can cross into the Labyrinth, home to the powerful Sorrows, and she can see strange Nightmare beasts when no one else can. Some, like the shadowy Inklings or bothersome Stubbed Toads, are merely a nuisance. Many more—like the Jimber-Jawed Hounds—are dangerous. Even deadly.
But something is very wrong in the Labyrinth. A terrible new Nightmare—a raggedy scarecrow called Jack—has been ravaging the misty maze, gobbling up wraiths and lost souls and allowing Nightmares to seep into the Waking World.
On one forbidden trip, Ix comes face to face with Jack. Worse, she’s apprehended by Candle Corps, an elite magical group that protects the kingdom against Nightmares. Instead of exile, Ix is allowed to enter the mysterious Candle Corps Academy. For the first time, she’s surrounded by others who can see what she sees: Morrigan Bea, a hot-tempered girl who might be a monster; Ollie Pembrooke, a shy boy who loves books and Dreamchaser dogs; and Hanky the Inkling, Ix’s faithful Nightmare companion.
But more and more Nightmares are bleeding into Spinar. Raggedy Jack is on the hunt for something—someone—from the Waking World. Ix Tatterfall herself.

My name is Leslie Vedder. I’m a YA and middle grade author with Penguin Teen / Penguin Kids, and a Colorado local who grew up and lives in Boulder.
I’m a queer author, I met my wife in high school choir at Fairview and all of my books are set in queer-friendly and girl-forward worlds. My first book, The Bone Spindle, is a YA fantasy and debuted on the ABA indie bestseller list—I like to describe it as Indiana Jones meets Sleeping Beauty, with two kickass girl treasure hunters as the leads.
The Labyrinth of Souls, is a middle grade fantasy adventure. The Nightmare Before Christmas meets a secret magical academy, starring a quirky girl named Ix Tatterfall who can see adorable and frightful Nightmare creatures and enter the mysterious Labyrinth of Souls.

Longmont Museum
In 1940, the first exhibits opened to the public in the carriage house at the Callahan House. The Museum outgrew that space, and, in 1954, moved to the basement of the Memorial Building in Roosevelt Park.
The Museum became more officially structured with the incorporation of the Longmont Museum, Inc., on October 4, 1961.
In 1970, the Museum changed from a private, nonprofit organization to a department of the City of Longmont. Shortly after that, the Museum moved again, this time to a converted Sorenson garage at 3rd and Kimbark. The new space opened its doors on September 13, 1970. In 1973, the garage was torn down and the Museum moved to a converted City warehouse and garage at 375 Kimbark Street.
In November 1999, Longmont voters approved $5 million in a bond issue to build a new museum. The bond issue was approved by over 77 percent of voters. The Longmont Museum & Cultural Center was further enhanced by a $1 million gift from the Bill and Lila Stewart family. Now located at 400 Quail Road, just east of Main Street in south Longmont, the Longmont Museum invites visitors to come and see our regularly changing exhibits, experience our education programs, and enjoy the views from our Longs Peak Room tower.
In 2015, the Museum opened the Stewart Auditorium, an 11,000 square foot expansion made possible by a $4.5 million capital campaign. The expansion included the 250-seat Stewart auditorium and Cone-Shortall stage, the glass-walled Swan Atrium, and the Kaiser Permanente Education Center, which greatly expanded the Museum’s classroom space.
In 2023, the Museum once again launched a new capital campaign, this time to fund a comprehensive expansion, including a complete renovation of the outdoor courtyard, adding a dedicated children’s gallery, and doubling the size of the existing gallery space, among other enhancements. The campaign goal is $8 million with a kickoff and groundbreaking in September, 2023.
Longmont is a diverse, multicultural and receptive city, one in which it’s easy for people to make connections and to thrive as part of the community. As home to many customs and cultures, it’s easy for residents and visitors to find fellowship with others of similar backgrounds and to explore and join in traditions that are new or foreign. The many nonprofit, civic and cultural organizations of Longmont welcome new people to become involved, and there is opportunity to find others with whom to share almost any interest. Not only do “you belong in Longmont” if you’re looking for a welcoming hometown or business location, but “when you’re in Longmont, you belong.”

Event Details
When Lt. Cdr. Waldo Drake, USNR arrived in Pearl Harbor in June 1941 as the U.S. Pacific Fleet’s first Public Relations Officer (PRO), he was an admired maritime reporter for the Los Angeles Times and Reserve Officer appointed to intelligence duties. By October 1944, he was hated by most of the correspondents assigned to cover the war against Japan and seen by officials in Washington as an obstacle to the development of Navy public relations. What led Drake to become the Pacific Fleet’s first PRO, what happened during the three years he served on the CINCPAC staff, and why he was removed from that position are the focus of Nimitz’s Newsman: Waldo Drake and the Navy’s Censored War in the Pacific.
In analyzing the dynamics of Drake and Nimitz’s relationship, and in highlighting Drake’s interactions with correspondents and Navy officials, Nimitz’s Newsman reveals the inside story of the Navy’s censored war in the Pacific during World War II.

Event Details
Arctic explorer and American visionary Walter Wellman pioneered both polar and trans-Atlantic airship aviation, making history’s first attempts at each. Wellman has been cast as a self-promoting egomaniac known mostly for his catastrophic failures. Instead he was a courageous innovator who pushed the boundaries of polar exploration and paved the way for the ultimate conquest of the North Pole—which would be achieved not by dogsled or airplane, but by airship.
American explorer Dr. Frederick Cook was the first to claim he made it to the North Pole in 1908. A year later, so did American Robert Peary, but both Cook’s and Peary’s claims had been seriously questioned. There was enough doubt that Norwegian explorer extraordinaire Roald Amundsen—who’d made history and a name for himself by being first to sail through the Northwest Passage and first man to the South Pole—picked up where Walter Wellman left off, attempting to fly to the North Pole by airship. He would go in the Norge, designed by Italian aeronautical engineer Umberto Nobile. The 350-foot Norge flew over the North Pole on May 12, 1926, and Amundsen was able to accurately record and verify their exact location.
However, the engineer Nobile felt slighted by Amundsen. Two years later, Nobile returned, this time in the Italia, backed by Prime Minister Benito Mussolini. This was an Italian enterprise, and Nobile intended to win back the global accolades and reputation he believed Amundsen had stripped from him. The journey ended in disaster, death, and accusations of cannibalism, launching one of the great rescue operations the world had ever seen.
Realm of Ice and Sky is the riveting tale of the men who first flew the most advanced technological airships of their time to the top of the world, risking and even giving their lives for science, country, and polar immortality.

The Talk of Our Town features conversations with notable local figures, exploring the stories that shape Boulder’s unique character.
Nick Forster, the founder and CEO of eTown, member of the award-winning band Hot Rize, and a true Boulder icon, brings his signature warmth and insight to The Talk of Our Town. This series invites notable guests to dive deep into the people, culture and stories that have made Boulder the city that it is today.
On February 27th, Nick sits down with two legendary figures shaping Boulder’s food scene, Dave Query and John Lehndorff.
Dave Query: Dave is the visionary founder of Big Red F Restaurant Group, one of Colorado’s most successful hospitality empires. His restaurants – including Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar, The Post Chicken & Beer, West End Tavern, Centro Mexican Kitchen, and Velvet Elk Lounge – have set the standard for dining in Boulder and beyond.
John Lehndorff: A longtime food journalist and storyteller, John has chronicled Colorado’s evolving food culture for decades through publications like Boulder Weekly, Colorado AvidGolfer, and Peak Magazine and as the host of Radio Nibbles and Kitchen Table Talk on KGNU. He brings a deep understanding of the history and evolution of Boulder’s unique food scene.
Together, they’ll explore how Boulder became a nationally recognized food destination, the history of downtown restaurants, the trends shaping its future and the behind-the-scenes stories that bring it all to life.

Mark your calendars for the 77th installment of the historic Leadville Ski Joring event, set to captivate spectators on March 1-2, 2025. This exhilarating competition features skilled horses pulling daring skiers through a course adorned with gates, jumps, and rings.
What is Ski Joring?
Ski Joring is a competition where a horse and rider pull a skier quickly through a course with gates, jumps, and rings. The skier is timed through the course, and penalties are assessed by missing gates or jumps and by missing or dropping the baton or any of the rings. The competitors race for cash prizes, and teams are made up by a random draw before the start. The Leadville Ski Joring event has been going on in Leadville since 1949 and is one of the country’s premier events of its kind.
“Ski Joring in Leadville isn’t just an event—it’s a tradition that brings our community together in the most exhilarating way. There’s nothing quite like the rush of watching skiers and horses race down historic Harrison Avenue, surrounded by the energy of locals and visitors who share a love for adventure. It’s a weekend of heart-pounding action, camaraderie, and pure Rocky Mountain magic—you just have to be here to feel it.” – Adam Ducharme, Visit Leadville-Twin Lakes Tourism and Economic Development Director
Competitor Registration:
For those eager to participate, registration takes place at the Elks Lodge, 123 W 5th Street, on Friday night, February 28th (starting approximately at 6:00 pm) for Saturday’s event and on Saturday night, March 1st (directly following the awards ceremony) for Sunday’s event. No pre-registration is available for the 2025 event. Questions or to express your intent to participate, contact Duffy Counsell at 970-471-5535 or reach out on Facebook.

Event Details
Opening Night Reception starts at 6PM
Film starts at 7PM, Director Elizabeth Ai will attend in-person and participate in a Q&A following the screening.
Filmmaker Elizabeth Ai embarks on a project to tell a story of joy and youthful defiance as she explores a musical phenomenon in the 1980s known to Vietnamese American teens as new wave. As she delves into the lives of family members and icons of the new wave scene, she uncovers much more than just music and fashion. In the heart of Orange County, California, this counterculture movement takes the youth by storm, becoming a sanctuary for rebellious teens. The fun Euro-synth dance beats and punk/goth aesthetics mask deep traumas—broken dreams and unfulfilled expectations that have shaped her community.
The joyful memories of her uncles and aunts sneaking out to this underground scene clash with her own painful childhood, haunted by her mother’s abandonment. As the filmmaker digs deeper, the excavation becomes an emotional journey, unraveling mysteries that touch on cultural identity, generational trauma, and the Vietnam War’s lasting impact. The exploration transforms from a love letter to her community into a cathartic process for the filmmaker. By confronting these buried emotions, the film takes us on a soulful journey that binds wounds, celebrates resilience, and offers new beginnings.

This certainly is not the dream home Yuen has been looking forward to. All she wants is that her younger sister could reunite with them as soon as possible.
Out of fear, the sisters try to appease their father in their younger years. As soon as they reach adolescence, they start to resist and escape from him. However, even after they grow up and move away from him, Yuen realizes all the people she loves and treasures resemble her father in her childhood memories.

The five local Tide Cleaners dry cleaning stores, announce their partnership with Prom Dress Exchange, a local nonprofit dedicated to making prom dreams come true in the Denver area. As part of this partnership, Tide Cleaners will serve as a drop-off location for prom dresses – this year the need is greatest for plus-sized dresses. Tide Cleaners is also contributing dry cleaning and storage services for the donated dresses, supporting the Prom Dress Exchange’s mission of providing affordable formal attire to high school students.
The Prom Dress Exchange, celebrating its 26th anniversary this year, has been instrumental in ensuring that every young person who wants to attend prom has access to a beautiful dress. Since its inception in 1999, the organization has provided thousands of high school students with affordable prom attire, reducing the financial burden associated with this milestone event. With the average cost of prom ranging between $900-$1200, the Annual Prom Dress Exchange plays a crucial role in making prom accessible to all.
The organization currently has an inventory of over 1,000 dresses and is actively seeking more plus size donations, sizes 15 and up, to meet the needs of all students.
For information on the nearest Denver Tide Cleaners location to donate formal dresses please visit tidecleaners.com/en-us/locations.

John Green, the #1 bestselling author of The Anthropocene Reviewed and a passionate advocate for global healthcare reform, tells a deeply human story illuminating the fight against the world’s deadliest disease.
Tuberculosis has been entwined with humanity for millennia. Once romanticized as a malady of poets, today tuberculosis is a disease of poverty that walks the trails of injustice and inequity we blazed for it.
In 2019, John Green met Henry, a young tuberculosis patient at Lakka Government Hospital in Sierra Leone while traveling with Partners in Health. John became fast friends with Henry, a boy with spindly legs and a big, goofy smile. In the years since that first visit to Lakka, Green has become a vocal and dynamic advocate for increased access to treatment and wider awareness of the healthcare inequities that allow this curable, treatable infectious disease to also be the deadliest, killing 1.5 million people every year.
In Everything is Tuberculosis, John tells Henry’s story, woven through with the scientific and social histories of how tuberculosis has shaped our world and how our choices will shape the future of tuberculosis.

Event Details

The Velosolutions UCI Pump Track World Championships Qualifiers are back, and 2025 promises to be a rollercoaster of speed, skill, and community spirit! With an action-packed calendar and stops in amazing locations across the globe, this season is set to be the most exhilarating yet.
The world’s best pump track riders descended upon KwaMashu, a vibrant township on Durban’s north coast, to battle for top honours at last year’s Velosolutions UCI Pump Track World Championships. After fiercely competitive events in both the Men’s and Women’s categories, Ryan Gilchrist from Australia and Sabina Košárková from Czechia showcased exceptional speed and determination to claim the coveted rainbow stripes. It was a true celebration of world-class riding and community unity, setting the stage for an even bigger 2025 season.
With an incredible line-up of 20 qualifiers leading to the grand finale – the 2025 UCI World Championships in Monthey, Switzerland, on Friday, Sept. 5 – this year’s series promises excitement at every turn.
